Analyzing British Trade Trends for 2026

In July 2023, the taskforce published an Interim Report (read our summary here) which made a variety of recommendations, consisting of: legislation needs to be advanced, and company posts of association changed, as soon as practicable to stop the issuance of new paper share certificates; the federal government must advance legislation to need dematerialisation of all share certificates at a future date; the federal government should seek advice from company and financier agents on the preferred disposition of "residual" paper share interests and whether a time limit must be enforced for the recognition of untraced Ultimate Beneficial Owners (UBOs); andintermediaries need to have a responsibility, as a condition of participation in the cleaning and settlement system, to put in location common technology that enables them to react to UBO requests from providers within a very brief time frame.
